Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Mazie K. Hirono (D-Hawaii) introduced the Americans Giving Care to Elders (AGE) Act to provide financial relief to family caregivers by creating a tax credit for the costs of caring for an aging relative. The AGE Act allows families to qualify for a tax credit to help offset expenses—ranging from purchasing assistive technologies and devices to fees for a care center to making necessary modifications to a home—of up to $6,000 per year.
“Nevada’s caregivers make daily personal and financial sacrifices so that their elderly loved ones can live in comfort,” said Cortez Masto. “As the cost of medical care continues to rise, we must ensure that these unsung heroes receive the financial support they need to keep their family members safe and well cared for. The AGE Act would create a tax credit to help offset costly elder care expenses including expenses for medical care, assistive technologies and caregiver training. I’m doing all I can in Congress to make sure the thousdands of Nevadans providing loving, dedicated care to elderly parents, spouses, friends and family members have the resources they need.”
