Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) today released the following statement applauding the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Bureau of Justice Assistance for awarding $500,000 to the Clark County Social Service Department to improve and update their justice information sharing technology.
“I applaud the Department of Justice for helping support Nevada’s local government agencies that play an active role in combatting crime in our communities. This grant funding will help Clark County Social Services develop more effective information sharing technologies and encourage collaboration between local agencies and law enforcement. I will continue to fight in the Senate to provide Nevada with the resources it needs to reduce crime and keep Nevadans safe.”
BACKGROUND:
The DOJ’s Bureau of Justice Assistance’s Technology Innovation for Public Safety (TIPS): Addressing Precipitous Increases in Crime program provides funding that will go towards updating and acquiring new justice information sharing technology, defined as hardware and software that plays a role in the collection, storage, sharing and analysis of criminal justice data. Funding under this program is provided to help state, local, territorial, and tribal jurisdictions use innovative technological solutions to enhance their justice information sharing capacity.
