Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement applauding the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) for awarding $1,070,175 grant to the National Judicial College in Reno. This grant will help fund education programs for tribal judges and tribal court professionals to enhance their understanding of commercial driver’s license laws.
“I applaud the Department of Transportation for helping support transportation education for Nevada’s tribal judges and court professionals. This grant will help improve awareness of public safety related issues involving large vehicles. I will continue to fight in the Senate to provide Nevada with the resources it needs to increase judicial education that is vital to keeping our roads safe.”
BACKGROUND:
The National Judicial College is an independent, not-for-profit judicial education institution headquartered at the University of Nevada, Reno since 1964. The National Judicial College has been educating tribal court judges and tribal personnel since its inception. In 2002, with the support of the U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance, the NJC founded the National Tribal Judicial Center to better address the distinctive needs of American Indian and Alaska Native tribal law practitioners.
