Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) applauded the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for awarding the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) $791,860, as one of its 31 funding recipients for the Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) program. The program works to reduce health disparities among racial and ethnic populations by implementing community-based approaches, including increasing access to healthy foods, promoting health information, and expanding the use of clinical and preventive services.
“As home to one of the most diverse populations in the country, Nevada is uniquely positioned to give researchers and health care professionals valuable insight and potential solutions to address racial and ethnic disparities in health. I commend the CDC for devoting resources to strengthening the health of diverse communities in Nevada and I will do all that I can to ensure that these critical programs in our state are protected.”
