Las Vegas, Nev. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) celebrated National School Lunch Week with students at Whitney Elementary School. Cortez Masto had lunch with students and education leaders to highlight the importance of federally assisted meal programs in providing low-cost or free lunches to millions of students every day.
“The National School Lunch Program has made a difference in the lives of low-income students by ensuring that hunger isn’t an obstacle to learning. For many young Nevadans, free or low-cost meals provided by their schools are some of their only balanced or hot meals in their day. That’s why it’s so important that we continue to protect federally funded meal programs and make sure that our kids don’t go to class on an empty stomach.”
