West Wendover, Nev. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) today joined Mayor Daniel Corona for a tour of downtown West Wendover, Nevada. She and Mayor Corona visited the site of the proposed West Wendover Amtrak stop, and discussed the importance of Amtrak service in Northern Nevada’s rural communities.
“I want to thank Mayor Corona for taking me on a tour of West Wendover, and for taking the time to discuss the proposal to expand service for rural communities on Amtrak’s California Zephyr line through Northern Nevada. As a member of the Senate Commerce, Transportation, and Science Committee, I’m committed to ensuring that all of Nevada’s businesses and communities have the infrastructure they need to continue to grow and expand. I look forward to working with Mayor Corona in the future to promote growth and development in West Wendover.”
BACKGROUND:
Last week, Senator Cortez Masto sent a letter to Amtrak President Richard Anderson to advocate for continued service of the California Zephyr line and to support expanding service to a new station in West Wendover. This letter is a continuation of the Senator’s efforts to promote the importance of Amtrak service for Northern Nevada’s rural communities. During Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee hearings earlier this year, the Senator has repeatedly pressed Amtrak officials and nominees on their commitment to maintaining service on the California Zephyr line.
