Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) welcomed a $1.4 million grant from the Department of Transportation to finance transportation research and training at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). UNLV is one of 32 University Transportation Centers (UTC’s) across the country that received funding to promote new solutions that address national, regional and local transportation issues.
“I’m delighted the Department of Transportation has awarded UNLV with a 1.4 million dollar grant so bright young minds in Nevada can devise solutions to our country’s pressing transportation needs. UNLV continues to be a leader in finding innovative transportation solutions on a host of issues, including rail transportation infrastructure. With this grant, UNLV can continue to maintain its innovative leadership. I’m excited to see the groundbreaking ideas that come from these transportation professionals in Nevada.”
BACKGROUND:
The University Transportation Centers (UTC) Program is funded by the Department of Transportation to invest in research, education and technology transfer at 32 colleges and universities across the nation. The program is mandated by Congress under the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act to cultivate expertise and generate solutions for the safe and environmentally sound movement of people and goods.
