Cortez Masto Applauds Over $770,000 in Grant Funds Awarded to UNR Research Programs

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) applauded the National Science Foundation (NSF) for awarding over $700,000 to the University of Nevada Reno to fund STEM research and training programs.  

“The National Science Foundation (NSF) is encouraging innovation in Nevada by investing in one of our state’s premier, tier one research universities. The University of Nevada Reno continues to be at the forefront of pioneering research and technological development in Nevada and these grant funds will help support the work of students and faculty who are moving the Silver State forward by developing the cutting edge technology that creates and support the jobs of the future.”

BACKGROUND:

The funds will be awarded as follows:

  • $500,000 to fund research and development of innovative robotic technologies.  
  • $174,958 to fund research on how to prevent cyber-attacks on smart grid systems;
  • $96,666 to partner UNR engineering faculty with training resources and mentors in engineering education research at other institutions.
