Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) celebrated the Department of Health and Human Services’ National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute awarding over $400,000 to the University of Nevada Reno for heart and vascular diseases research. The research investigates the impact of sarcomere acetylation, which helps regulate cardiac contractions, to develop better therapies for patients with heart failure.

BACKGROUND:
The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is a National Institute of Health (NIH) subsidiary that does vital work to promote the prevention and treatment of heart, lung and blood diseases and improve public health. The University of Nevada Reno will receive $401,666 from this program to support heart and vascular diseases research, specifically the impact of sarcomere acetylation in the heart.
