Cortez Masto, Rosen Applaud Over $3.7 Million in HHS Grant Funds for Nevada Opioid Treatment Programs

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) released the following statement applauding the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for disbursing $3,768,628 in funding to the State of Nevada through its State Opioid Response (SOR) grant program. These funds will help expand access to opioid abuse prevention, treatment and recovery support programs throughout the state.

“Protecting the health and well-being of Nevadans will always be our number one priority, and we’re thankful for HHS’s partnership as we fight to deliver quality opioid abuse treatment and recovery options to Nevadans in need. We will continue to fight in the Senate to ensure that Nevada programs that are battling this public health crisis receive the funding and resources they need to make a difference for those struggling with opioid addiction and support those in recovery.”

BACKGROUND:

The State Opioid Response grants administered by HHS’s Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) aim to address the opioid crisis by increasing access to medication-assisted treatments, reducing unmet treatment need, and reducing opioid overdose-related deaths through prevention, treatment and recovery activities for opioid use disorder.

This is the second year of SOR funding released by HHS in response to legislation passed by Congress in the March 2018 minibus, which allocated over $1 billion in funding to address the opioid crisis.
