Las Vegas, Nev. – Today, U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) participated in a roundtable to highlight the disproportionate impact of climate change on communities of color. Cortez Masto talked about her new appointment to the Senate Democrats’ Special Committee on the Climate Crisis and discussed initiatives to bring the voices of communities of color to the forefront of climate change discussions.
“Every day I hear from Nevadans who are frustrated that their elected leaders aren’t taking climate change seriously, despite overwhelming scientific consensus that climate change is real and humans are responsible. Communities of color stand to lose the most from the climate crisis. Yet the unfortunate truth is that this Administration and congressional Republicans are sitting on their hands, and in some cases making the problem worse by gutting funding for and reversing policies that protect our environment. I’m helping to lead Senate Democrats’ response on climate change and fighting to give Nevadans the future they deserve.”
