Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) applauded the Department of Transportation for awarding $11,626,361 in grants under the Airport Improvement Program to five Nevada airports. The funds will go toward infrastructure improvements.
“Nevada depends on its airports to connect people to our world-class tourist sites and drive commerce with our innovative businesses. Major hubs like McCarran International Airport and smaller rural airports alike run more smoothly when we fund improvements to runways, taxiways and lighting and engage in master planning for the future. I’m committed to making sure Nevada receives necessary federal funding to improve our critical infrastructure and support our state’s economy.”
BACKGROUND:
The FAA’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP) provides grant funding to airports across the country in order to strengthen our nation’s aviation infrastructure. Airports are awarded funding based on their passenger volume and demonstrated project needs.
Senator Cortez Masto has championed legislation that strengthens innovation and promotes critical infrastructure in Nevada, and throughout America, including the 2018 FAA Reauthorization Bill.
The grant funds will be awarded as follows:
- $469,687 to Tonopah Airport to update the airport master plan study
- $684,375 to Beatty Airport to reconstruct and rehabilitate taxiways, aprons and runways
- $1,000,000 to Elko Regional Airport to reconstruct and rehabilitate taxiways, aprons and runways
- $1,972,299 to Henderson Executive Airport to update the airport master plan study and install and rehabilitate lighting
- $7,500,000 to McCarran International to reconstruct aprons
