Elko, Nev. – Yesterday, U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) toured Lamoille Canyon to survey the damage from the 2018 Range 2 fire there and review the efforts underway to rehabilitate the canyon. Later in the day, she met with representatives from Nevada Gold Mines LLC and Elko County government officials.
“I’m so grateful for the work being undertaken to restore and rehabilitate Lamoille Canyon. I’ll continue to fight in the Senate to get the funds Nevadans need to rebuild in the wake of these fires. I’m also committed to talking with federal and state officials, fire chiefs, ranchers, homeowners and others affected by the growing number of fires so that we can increase prevention, speed our response to fires when they do break out, and restore our land and communities afterwards.
“Throughout my time in Elko County, I’ve been reminded of the strength of our rural communities, and it’s always a privilege to meet with the business owners, local government leaders and the next generation of Nevadans who are helping all corners of the Silver State grow and thrive.”
