Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) applauded $490,746 in funding awarded to the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The funding for housing choice vouchers will help improve access to affordable housing for people with disabilities.
“Individuals with disabilities face significant barriers to access affordable housing, especially those who rely on federal disability assistance to make ends meet. In Nevada, skyrocketing rents and a shortage of accessible housing put disabled residents at an even greater risk for eviction and homelessness. This critical investment supports Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority’s efforts to provide affordable housing for this vulnerable community.”
BACKGROUND:
HUD Housing Choice Voucher funding under the Mainstream Program enables non-elderly persons with disabilities to access affordable housing and an array of supportive services provided though partnership agreements between public housing agencies and local agencies with the capacity to coordinate voluntary services and supports to enable individuals to live independently in the community.
