Cortez Masto: Trump Administration’s Budget Proposal Hurts Nevada

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement in reaction to President Trump’s FY2021 budget proposal and its potential impact on Nevada.

“I was sent to Congress to fight for all Nevadans, and while I’m eager to work with my colleagues in Congress to preserve this budget’s funding for our rural communities, there is far too much in this proposal that will hurt Nevada families. This budget proposal targets earned benefit programs like Medicare and Social Security, and ends Medicaid as we know it. It slashes crucial housing, food security and education programs. It also specifically targets our state’s economy by cutting vital funding and tax credits that fuel our clean energy economy and protect our pristine public lands.

“While the President’s budget has some areas where I can work with him, on the whole his proposal would take Nevada backward and harm the most vulnerable in our state which is why I cannot support it.”
