Las Vegas, Nev. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) today toured Cimarron Memorial High School and met with students in its award-winning robotics program. She discussed her cosponsorship of the WORKER Act, which would promote STEM education in public schools, maker programs to teach hands-on skills, registered apprentice programs, and training for workers in in-demand industries. Representatives from the Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation, the College of Southern Nevada, Clark County School District, Workforce Connections and Southern Nevada Building Trades also joined the tour.
“I had a terrific time today talking with Cimarron Memorial students about the creative projects they’re working on. I know they have a bright future in STEM, and I’m doing everything I can in the Senate to help young Nevadans succeed. I’ll keep pushing to promote and encourage education at every level in sought-after skills, from classes on maker culture for our students to registered apprenticeships and training careers that are highly in demand. That’s how we’ll keep Nevada as the Innovation State, provide good paying jobs, and protect our planet from the worst impacts of the climate crisis.”
BACKGROUND:
Senator Cortez Masto introduced the Working On Rewarding and Keeping Employees Resilient (WORKER) Act to ensure employees have access to good paying careers in skilled jobs throughout Nevada and the nation. The WORKER Act promotes education, support and training for students and workers directed toward in-demand industries, including expanding all-important registered apprentice programs.
