Cortez Masto Tours Sierra Nevada Job Corps

Reno, Nev. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) today toured the Sierra Nevada Job Corps facility and discussed her legislative efforts to expand apprenticeship programs and ensure every Nevadan has the necessary tools to find and keep good paying jobs.

“Investing in students across Nevada is critical to developing a robust 21st century workforce. Sierra Nevada Job Corps Center (SNJCC) is doing just that by working to make sure every Nevadan can pursue vocational training, no matter their background or socioeconomic status. It was an absolute pleasure touring SNJCC’s campus in Reno and meeting with the next generation of workforce leaders. These hard working students can rest assured that I’m fighting for their futures by working on critical legislation like my WORKER Act which will promote education and training for workers in the Silver State.”

BACKGROUND:

Senator Cortez Masto recently introduced legislation to promote and encourage STEM education, apprenticeships, worker retraining, and other incentives to ensure working families have access to good paying careers in skilled jobs. The Working On Rewarding and Keeping Employees Resilient (WORKER) Act will expand apprenticeship programs, create a Training Voucher program to support dislocated workers, and coordinate unemployment programs with career counseling, job search assistance, training assistance, and income support services to better support unemployed workers in finding a job.
