Las Vegas, Nev. – Today, U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) announced $7.3 million in Department of Justice (DOJ) funding to state, local, and tribal governments to respond to the coronavirus pandemic. This was appropriated by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act of 2020.
“We are glad to see Nevada get funds from the CARES Act to support law enforcement and first responders in fighting the coronavirus pandemic,” said the Senators. “We want to make sure all Nevadans are safe, and these funds for personal protective equipment (PPE) and other supplies will help do that. We’ll keep working in the U.S. Senate to make sure Nevada gets the funds and programs it needs to support our first responders and our public health.”
BACKGROUND:
DOJ’s Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding (CESF) Program provides funding to assist eligible states, local units of government, and tribes in preventing, preparing for, and responding to the coronavirus.
Allowable projects and purchases include, but are not limited to, overtime, equipment (including law enforcement and medical personal protective equipment), hiring, supplies (such as gloves, masks, sanitizer), training, travel expenses, and addressing the medical needs of inmates in state, local, and tribal prisons, jails, and detention centers.
