Cortez Masto Hosts Discussion with Northern Nevada’s Special Events Industry Leaders Navigating the Coronavirus Pandemic

Las Vegas, Nev. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) met with Northern Nevada professionals in the special events industry to discuss the ramifications COVID-19 has had on their companies and organizations. During the video call, the Senator acknowledged the importance of the special events sector to Northern Nevada’s economy and the specific challenges many Northern Nevada non-profit organizations have faced accessing federal aid. She also discussed the work she is doing in the Senate to assist small business and non-profit organizations across Nevada.

“From Burning Man and Hot August Nights to the Reno Air Races and the Reno Rodeo, Northern Nevada is home to numerous special events that fuel the local economy, provide jobs and play an important role in Northern Nevada’s culture. As safety precautions amid the coronavirus pandemic have required the cancellation of many of these summer mainstays, I’m doing all I can in Congress to ensure these businesses and organizations have the support they need to keep their doors open so they can welcome back attendees in 2021 and beyond.”

BACKGROUND:

Senator Cortez Masto has joined multiple bipartisan letters calling for Congressional leadership to include targeted relief for the live event and entertainment industry in future coronavirus relief packages, including letters requesting support for operators of live entertainment events and independent music venues. She also recently introduced legislation to help more small businesses access flexible Small Business Administration (SBA) funding to cover their operational costs and stay open.
