Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) today joined the Nevada Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Grow With Google, and the Connected Commerce Council to co-host a workshop to help small businesses use Google tools to connect with customers and manage their businesses during this time of uncertainty.
“Nevada in particular has been hit hard by the economic impact of this pandemic, because of our hospitality and travel industries. As we move forward into this reshaped economy, it’s going to be even more important for businesses and workers to get support so they can recover and expand. That’s why accessible workforce development tools, like the ones Google provides, are critical. I’ll keep working in the Senate to get Nevadans the resources they need to weather this crisis, from broadband to small business loans to programs that retrain workers for new job opportunities.”
BACKGROUND:
Senator Cortez Masto voted for the CARES Act, which included provisions for small business loans to support this job-creating sector of the economy during the coronavirus pandemic. She is also working to pass the WORKER Act, which will support workers looking to retrain for in-demand industries through expanded apprenticeship programs and STEAM education opportunities, including for underrepresented populations, young people, and veterans. Senator Cortez Masto has pushed for expanded broadband for underserved rural and urban communities as part of her Innovation State Initiative to diversify Nevada’s economy by working on various bills, including introducing the bipartisan Connected Rural Schools and ACCESS BROADBAND Acts. More information about Senator Cortez Masto’s work regarding broadband access, along with digital literacy and skills, is available here.
