Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) announced $4,080,000 in Department of Transportation (DoT) grant funding for the Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe Country (RTC Washoe) to upgrade its public bus fleet. Senator Cortez Masto wrote a letter in support of this grant award.
“As Nevadans safely return to work, this grant funding will help ensure Washoe County’s public transportation infrastructure has the resources it needs to make upgrades, and health and safety improvements. This funding is especially exciting since RTC Washoe buses will soon be operating in full force on the completed Virginia Street expansion project, making travel easier and safer for Washoe County residents.”
BACKGROUND:
The Department of Transportation’s Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program makes federal resources available to states and direct recipients to replace, rehabilitate and purchase buses and related equipment and to construct bus-related facilities.
Senator Cortez Masto advocated on behalf of the $40.4 million award and release of federal Capital Investment Grant (CIG) funding for RTC Washoe’s Reno Virginia Street BRT Extension Project, which will be completed on time and under budget.
