Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) today announced that the Department of Labor (DOL) has awarded $592,300 to tribal entities in Nevada as part of the Indian and Native American Programs (INAP) grant that provides training opportunities at the local level for both adults and young people.
“The economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic have hit all our communities hard, but communities of color have been disproportionately impacted. I’m glad to see these awards go to tribal communities in Nevada to help those communities find new opportunities as our economy shifts going forward. I’ll keep pushing in the U.S. Senate to get Nevada’s tribal communities the support they need to stay safe and to recover economically.”
BACKGROUND:
The purpose of these grants is to provide quality employment and training services to tribes and tribal organizations. The awards will be distributed as follows:
- $273,428 to the Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada
- $184,539 to the Las Vegas Indian Center, Inc.
- $117,920 to the Shoshone-Paiute Tribes
- $16,413 to the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony
