Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) today announced a $240,000 Economic Development Administration (EDA) planning investment grant awarded to the Western Nevada Development District. The grant updates a local economic planning framework, process, and strategy to support private capital investment and job creation in the region.
“Investment in infrastructure is vital to ensure a robust economic recovery in the Silver State. I am excited to see additional grant funding for the Western Nevada Development District that will enable them to continue providing essential resources to assist the communities hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic with a longer term plan. I’ll continue working in Congress to ensure that future funding supports the workforce development and infrastructure investments that come from this plan, and Nevada needs to bolster the economic vitality of our communities as we continue to address the challenges of COVID-19.”
BACKGROUND:
This funding allocation comes in addition to the $400,000 COVID-19 recovery grant awarded in early July announced by Senator Cortez Masto.
In June, Senator Cortez Masto called on Congressional leadership to include additional EDA funding in the future legislation responding to the coronavirus pandemic, and taking Nevada forward.
EDA planning investment supports the update and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the seven counties and five municipalities served by the Western Nevada Development District. The CEDS process is designed to bring together public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
