Las Vegas, Nev. – This week, U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) is participating in a virtual tour of all of Nevada’s 17 counties, meeting via teleconference with community officials and government representatives, and attending virtual tours of local businesses and non-profits. The Senator spoke with community leaders, county commissioners and local officials from White Pine, Lander and Eureka counties about how their communities are responding to the coronavirus pandemic. She also encouraged Nevadans to discover the treasures of the “Loneliest Road in America” by highlighting some of rural Nevada’s most educational and historical tourist attractions.
“Nevada’s Highway 50 – especially the long stretch through White Pine, Lander and Eureka counties – is full of vibrant communities with fascinating stories. From the Great Basin Heritage Area, including the Nevada Northern Railway and its mascot Dirt the cat, to the Eureka Opera House and the historic buildings in Austin, there is always something to explore. Whether Nevadans visit these marvels in person or through a computer screen, I’m doing all I can in the Senate to make sure these Nevada treasures have the resources they need to expand their reach, protect the health and safety of their visitors and keep their doors open for future adventurers.”
BACKGROUND:
Senator Cortez Masto recently introduced the bipartisan STEP Act to aid local economies by strengthening small businesses and live event companies who employ thousands of Nevadans. She has also cosponsored legislation that will help more small businesses access flexible Small Business Administration (SBA) funding to cover their operational costs and stay open.
