Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) issued the following statement after joining her colleagues in voting against Senator McConnell’s inadequate relief package.
“Senator McConnell held up action on vital coronavirus relief legislation all summer. Rather than negotiate a bipartisan bill to help all Nevadans, he offered a slimmed-down package that does nothing to provide relief for renters and homeowners facing eviction, nor support state, local and tribal governments as they face greater budget deficits as a result of their efforts to keep communities safe during this crisis. This bill doesn’t even do the bare minimum of getting funding to hospitals, or help provide greater health coverage to Americans who have lost their health insurance during this crisis. There is no provision offering additional nutrition assistance for struggling families, broadband funding to connect underserved communities, nor necessary aid to the critical industries that are the backbone of Nevada’s economy, including gaming, hospitality and tourism. It’s long past time for Leader McConnell to stop playing politics so that the Senate can act in a bipartisan way to pass relief legislation that supports Nevada’s families and businesses as well as provides resources to our state’s key industries so that our economy can spring back and Nevadans can get back to work safely.”
