Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) today announced that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded $1,113,639 to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the University of Nevada, Reno for cutting-edge medical research.
“I’m glad to see Nevada’s premier research institutions get support for medical research that promises to improve treatment for patients in the Silver State and across the country. I’ll keep working in the Senate for resources to support Nevada’s institutions of higher learning, innovate in science and technology, and promote the health of every Nevadan.”
BACKGROUND:
The awards will be distributed as follows:
- $603,788 to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas for research into aging and Alzheimer’s
- $509,851 to the University of Nevada, Reno for research into the gastrointestinal system
