Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) today announced that the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has awarded the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation $7,975,389 in Dislocated Worker Grant (DWG) funding to address the workforce impacts of COVID-19 across Nevada. These grant funds can be used to provide disaster-relief employment opportunities, job training and reemployment services.
“Nevada workers impacted by the coronavirus pandemic deserve all the support and resources we can provide. I’m proud to announce this grant funding, which will help Nevadans in all 17 counties access vital job training and employment services, as well as fund short-term job opportunities as contact tracers, custodial staff and other positions vital to mitigating the impacts of COVID-19 and helping our state reopen safely.”
BACKGROUND:
Disaster Recovery Dislocated Worker Grants (DWG) provide eligible participants disaster-relief employment opportunities to address the effects of COVID-19 on their communities, as well as employment and training activities. Employment Recovery DWGs provide reemployment services to eligible individuals affected by mass layoffs, such as those resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
