Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) today attended the virtual opening of Hope Springs, one of the first bridge housing projects in Northern Nevada.
“The vision behind Hope Springs is close to my heart. Everyone working at HOPES appreciates how important housing is for health and stability. Having a safe place to call home at Hope Springs is going to help so many residents get treatment to improve and strengthen their physical and mental health. I’ll continue to work in the Senate to support innovative community partnerships like Hope Springs to meet the housing needs of Nevadans.”
BACKGROUND:
Hope Springs will provide safe and dignified housing with 30 individual sleeping units around a central facility containing restrooms, showers, laundry, a kitchen, and community space. In addition, Hope Springs residents will be connected to Northern Nevada HOPES health care services.
Senator Cortez Masto has been a continued advocate for affordable housing as well as mental and behavioral health care. She supports policies providing additional funds to programs that address homelessness and build more affordable housing, such as the Emergency Shelter Grant Program, HOME, and CDBG. In addition, she has introduced legislation to define national standards for behavioral health crisis care and expand coverage of mental health services for patients. She has also cosponsored the Excellence in Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Expansion Act, which would expand funding for Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs) in Nevada and across the country.
