Las Vegas, Nev. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) awarded $6,497,176.14 to Renown Medical Center to reimburse Renown for the temporary hospital that it set up in a parking garage in Reno to cope with COVID-19 case surges in April and November of 2020.
“Renown Medical Center and so many other health care providers have been on the front lines during this pandemic, working around the clock to figure out how to get quality care to sick Nevadans. I’m glad that FEMA has reimbursed Renown for many of the expenses involved in treating COVID-19 patients, as authorized in the relief bills I have supported. I’ll continue to work to get Nevadans every resource to cope with the health and economic aspects of this pandemic.”
BACKGROUND:
In response to the COVID-19 public health emergency, the Renown Regional Medical Center provided a temporary alternate care facility in a parking garage to address a surge in patients. This grant reimburses Renown for 75 percent of the cost of the temporary facility.
