Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) today announced that the Department of Justice (DOJ) has awarded over $200,000 in federal funds to combat and prevent elder abuse in Nevada. Since her time as Nevada’s Attorney General, Senator Cortez Masto has been committed to protecting Nevada’s seniors and ensuring that they have access to the resources they need to thrive. The funds from this grant will provide training to professionals to enhance their ability to address elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

From my time as Attorney General, I have been passionate about the need to protect our seniors, and this grant will help us train professionals to recognize and prevent the exploitation of vulnerable Nevadans. We owe it to our seniors to do everything we can to keep them safe.”
To help protect Nevada’s elders and prevent elder abuse, the Department of Justice is providing $279,250 in grant funding to the Nevada Office of the Attorney General to increase and strengthen training for police, prosecutors, and the judiciary in recognizing, investigating, and prosecuting instances of abuse, neglect, exploitation against older individuals.
During her time as Nevada’s Attorney General, Senator Cortez Masto fought aggressively against the abuse and exploitation of elders. She was responsible for establishing the Senior Protection Unit within her office to ensure that investigators and prosecutors have the necessary resources to pursue those who abuse elders. Additionally, Senator Cortez Masto drafted legislation targeting private guardians who abuse elders.
