Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) today announced that she helped secure $7,000,000 in Department of Transportation (DOT) funding for the city of Reno to replace two aging bridges along its downtown river walk. The funding will replace two bridges on Arlington Avenue with more resilient and accessible designs that will make the area safer for all users. Senator Cortez Masto wrote a letter of support for the project to encourage DOT to approve this highly competitive grant funding.
“Reno has done so much to beautify and revitalize its downtown in recent years, and these improvements have helped the city host festivals and special events along the Truckee River while boosting our economy,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “I was glad to help secure this funding to make Reno safer and more welcoming to Nevadans and visitors alike. I look forward to continue to fight for more resources from the recently passed bipartisan infrastructure bill.”

As part of her Innovation State Initiative, Senator Cortez Masto has worked to improve transportation all over the state. She secured multiple transportation provisions in the bipartisan infrastructure bill that was signed into law this week to help Nevada communities make even more improvements to their roads and bridges, plan for and build electric vehicle infrastructure, make transit to school safer for students, and support smart cities that use technology to solve transportation challenges. Since 2018, Senator Cortez Masto has advocated for and secured more than $107 million dollars in transportation investments in Washoe County, including grants for cleaner bus transition, new and improved RTC assets, highway construction, and the Virginia Street Bus Project.
