Cortez Masto and Rosen Announce Resolution Recognizing the Las Vegas Aces for First National Championship

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) sponsored a resolution in the United States Senate recognizing the historic win by the Las Vegas Aces women’s basketball team in the WNBA Finals on Sunday, September 18th, 2022.

“The Las Vegas Aces made our state proud this Sunday, and all season long,” said Senator Cortez Masto, “As Nevadans cheered them on each game, the players showed everyone the power of dedication, teamwork, and talent. I’m looking forward to following their many future successes.”

“The Aces have made Las Vegas a city of champions thanks to their historic win,” said Senator Rosen. “This incredible team has inspired all of us by bringing Nevada’s first-ever major league professional sports championship home to our state. The women of the Las Vegas Aces have made all of us proud, and we look forward to future victories.”

This win marks the first major league professional sports championship in the history of the city of Las Vegas and the state of Nevada. The historic win was led by Aces head coach Becky Hammon, the first former WNBA player to coach a championship team and the first coach in WNBA history to win a title in her first coaching season. The resolution highlights the Aces players A’ja Wilson, who was WNBA League MVP, and Chelsea Gray, who was the WNBA Finals MVP.
